Octillo Managing Director, Kara Hilburger, was quoted in a SecureWorld article - 'New York to Require Attorneys Receive Data Privacy, Security Training' - on New York State's new Cybersecurity CLE requirement. In 2023, the New York State Bar Association will become the first in the United States to require attorneys to complete at least 1.0 hours of cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection Continuing Legal Education (CLE) training. The new requirement will go into effect on July 1, 2023 and providers may start offering Cybrsecurity CLE courses on January 1, 2023.
The current landscape requires lawyers to stay up to speed with changes in technology used to practice law and understand the need to protect and safeguard this information from threat actors. New York's new CLE requirement is undoubtedly an important milestone in the industry.
